‘Who is the council and why are they charging me £1,200?!’: Love Island winner Toni left fuming just days after moving into her new home — as the US star jokes she’s being “taxed before even settling in” and fans flood TikTok with hilarious reactions… - suong
JUST days after moving into her new home, Toni Laites has been left fuming after being hit with a £1,200 bill to pay.
The Love Island winner, 25, took to TikTok to ask her followers what a council tax bill is and why she has to pay it.
In a clip, the unimpressed American native holds the document in her hand as she says: “I swear, this country just be making s**t up to charge me for it cos what is a council tax?
“Who is the council and why are they charging me £1,200? That’s like 1500 US dollars. I’ve been here for five days; ya’ll couldn’t let me settle in or anything before you start taxing.
The reality star slammed the document down as she pulled a face and said: “Damn.”
She captioned the post: “Come outside council I just wanna talk.”
Her fans flocked to the comments section as one person gushed: “Baby’s first council tax.”
Another TikTok user fumed: “1200??????? That’s ridiculous,” and somebody else said: “I hate council tax instant vibe killer.”
Yet another warned the ITV2 star: “Wait till you hear about tv licence.”
While a fifth added: “Welcome to the UK baby.”
Her Love Island pals also rushed to have their say as Shakira Khan joked: “What is a council tax,” with crying tears of laughter emojis.
Fellow finalist Yasmin Pettet expressed: “Don’t forget breathing tax x,” and Megan Forte-Clarke added: “I was sickened.”
Since winning Love Island in August with boyfriend Cach Mercer, Toni has been splitting time between the UK and US, often staying in hotels and Airbnb’s.
However, last week she revealed she’d finally secured her visa as she moved into her brand new apartment.
Earlier this month, the brunette beauty opened up to her followers about the struggles she’s been facing since winning the show and scooping the £50,000 cash prize.
In a clip on TikTok, she said: “I’ve been trying all day to
“But I thought it would be better if I came on here and told you guys the truth about the last couple of months.
“I never thought that going to work as a waitress in Vegas on a random Monday afternoon would end up putting me on one of the UK’s biggest reality TV shows, let alone winning as the first American.
“I’m so grateful that you guys have put me in the position that I am in, but it hasn’t been easy. I’ve been sleeping on couches and I think this is my seventh Airbnb/hotel.
“I can’t thank you enough for loving and supporting me every step of the way.”
“Living out of suitcases is hard and I haven’t had a visa so I haven’t been able to work, or go live or produce the content that you guys want to see every day.”
Toni promised fans that, despite the toll living in a new country had taken on her, she was working to get back to her old self.
Getting emotional, she said: “I can’t thank you enough for loving and supporting me every step of the way.
“I’m trying to get back to that same lovable character that you guys fell in love with on your screens for eight weeks… I just haven’t been that person.
“Please be patient with me. I take so much
“When you scream out of your car windows at me, it’s so surreal. Waitresses don’t usually get to walk down red carpets in rooms full of celebrities that they’ve only read about online.”
Toni finished her post: “I came into the show with only 3,000 followers and no TikTok, so for almost a million of you to be following me at this point… it’s crazy. I’m doing everything I can. Please bear with me.”

She previously spoke of the bond she shares with Rami's son in an interview with the Daily Mail.
She said: 'Do you know what? I've got the greatest gift of all my partner gave me. I have a beautiful three-year-old stepson and have a very good relationship with his mum and it's been so lovely that they've let me be a part of their lives.
'Tristan, he's beautiful. I love him so much. He's the apple of my eye. With Tristan, our family are just so obsessed with him.
'And my nephews Hayden and Kane are so good with him, he's like the new little baby on the scene. They just love him as much as I do and he loves them. He's just part of our family.'
The reality star revealed earlier this year that she achieved the results of her weight loss in just three months after using Mounjaro.
And just recently this month, Gemma gave a further update saying she has
Gemma admitted she has been exercising more but is trying not to put too much pressure on herself.
Speaking to OK! she said: 'I've actually just lost another stone and four pounds, I feel really good.'

'I love myself as I am – you've got to be kind to yourself, it's just about constantly remembering to make those right choices and be mindful,' she added.
'I don't put pressure on myself. It didn't take you five minutes to gain it and it's not going to take you five minutes to lose it.'
Gemma also revealed that skinny jabs left her with 'agonising' health woes following her three stone weight loss transformation.
The TV personality, who stars in Paddy Power's latest gaming ad with Coleen Rooney and Danny Dyer, told Daily Mail that she had a 'gallbladder attack' in August and is still on medication months on.
Gallstones are small stones that form in the gallbladder and if they cause pain, some people may need surgery to remove the organ, according to the NHS.
When asked if she ever experienced any bad side effects, Gemma told the Daily Mail: 'I had a little gallbladder attack. I'm not sure if it's linked, they say it can be linked, it's not always the case, so I've had to slow down on it all for a bit.
'We were going away for Rami's 50th and I was in excruciating pain. I'd taken him to a Ferrari day because it was his 50th birthday and we were flying the next day.
'I fell to the floor, whilst he was going round the track. And I was like, whoa, I'm in pain. And then I was thinking I'm gonna have to go and sit in A&E.
'I called my doctor and he said, "Let me come to your house scan you". When he scanned me, it was gallstones. But gallstones, this is where I'm not 100 per cent convinced at the minute, gallstones, everyone can have gallstones and they can flare up at any time.
'You know, I was in such pain, but I've got the medication at the minute that's helping me. At the time, it was agonising and I thought I'm, I'm not gonna make it to Cyprus.
'But, you know, the doctors were great and I've got pain relief for it now so we're just gonna really have to see how it goes, you know.'
