She’s been open about her body woes over the years and recently admitted she hoped to transform her figure once and for all. But despite being desperate to lose 4st, Lauren Goodger says she will not go anywhere near weight-loss injections – though she shockingly admits she’s been inundated with friends who are urging her take the jabs.
‘Cor, I’m feeling the pressure – everyone around me is telling me to go on weight- loss injections,’ Lauren tells Closer.
‘I have friends who joke and say, “I’m going to stab you with it while you’re asleep and it’ll be the best thing you’ve done. You’ll love it!” It’s become so normal, they’re all wondering why I haven’t done it yet!
‘I’m heavier than I’d like to be – I’m desperate to lose the weight and get back to my best. If I did the jab, I’d probably lose the 4st in a month! I’d look unbelievable – everyone would want to work with me,’ she laughs.
‘I understand why everyone’s doing it because it’s a quick fix, but it’s frightening how quickly your body changes – and who really knows what the long-term effects are? I’m not knocking anyone – I completely understand it’s the easy route out – but I want to do it naturally.’
After seeing ‘half of Essex’ take up weight-loss injections, Lauren, 39, admits she’s seen first-hand the worrying side effects that have made her swear she’ll never go near them. Though the jabs are prescribed to individuals with excess weight, Lauren tells us it is common knowledge that people are deliberately inputting the wrong information online in order to get them.
She explains, ‘Everyone I know who’s doing the jabs looks older, and their skin is so dehydrated. They’re losing all their muscle but, as you age, you need volume in your face to plump out your skin and lessen the look of wrinkles. Their hair is thinning and, worst of all, they’ve ended up with old lady-looking legs because they are not getting enough of their daily requirement of nutrition. Everyone just looks the same.
‘Even when they stop taking the injections, they’re still barely eating for months afterwards because they are no longer interested in food. They’ve probably abused it so much, their appetite has gone and food just makes them feel sick. Some of them are away with the fairies because their body desperately needs nutrition.’
In fact, the TOWIE star – who is mum to four-year-old daughter Larose with her ex, Charles Drury – says she’s pleaded with some friends who’ve taken it too far to stop. ‘Everybody is on it, let’s put it that way,’ she says.
‘Some celebrities have told me they’re secretly taking it. Even if they’ve only done it for a month or two, loads of them have tried it. It doesn’t matter if you’re heavier or thinner, some of my skinny friends have taken it when they really didn’t need to. All they wanted to do was to lose a few pounds, and they used the injections to kick-start it.
‘Then, before they know it, their weight loss has gone too far. I have some friends who I tell every single day to stop taking it. It’s easy to upload a heavier photo of yourself or say you have a higher BMI to get the jab online. I’ve seen weight- loss injections advertised in a sunbed shop! There’s no escaping it; it’s madness.’
But despite pressure from friends, Lauren maintains she’s determined to lose weight naturally – even if it takes longer. The star, who recently underwent surgery to have a mole removed, has started following intermittent fasting. She says, ‘I know it’ll take a year to get the body I want. Having a fasting window works well – I break it at 1pm with eggs and sourdough or omelettes, before doing cardio at the gym.
‘And in the evening, I’ll have what I want in moderation and my dinner is a combination of all food groups – and I will still have a biscuit! I still eat carbs, it’s about having what you want without overeating and not having too much sugar – it’s the devil. But don’t get me wrong, I’m a stressed out and busy mum, so if I want chocolate, I’ll have it.’
Meanwhile, Lauren finally has her breast reduction surgery planned for next year after admitting she regrets having heavier implants, but she admits she’s anxious about her looming surgery. She says, ‘Once the boobs are out, it’ll make a big difference to my figure. I am scared, terrified and petrified.
‘I was shaking and crying when I had a mole removed recently – how the hell am I going to cope when they take out the implants, cut the skin up, move my nipple and do an uplift? I just keep telling myself it’ll be worth it.’
