‘I just feel worthless…’: Special Forces star Jessie James Decker quits after husband Eric’s brutal back injury forces him out — as the tearful NFL legend opens up about depression, anxiety and losing his sense of purpose off the field… - suong
SPECIAL Forces star Jessie James Decker has been sent packing after her husband Eric’s nasty back injury prevented him from continuing the show.
The duo’s last day played out on Thursday’s episode of the World’s Toughest Test.
Much of the episode highlighted Eric‘s personal battles as he sought to find himself six years after retiring from the NFL.
The professional athlete struggled to complete the day’s challenges, which included “The Postman’s Walk,” where each of the remaining recruits had to sidestep along a 165-foot stretch of rope suspended 200 feet above the canyon floor.
Eric’s team failed the exercise after exceeding the 10-minute time limit, a loss that appeared to fall on the football player’s shoulders, given that he was the last to cross the rope.
Later that night, Eric, 38, was pulled for a private chat with the special forces operatives leading the group, and they dug deep into what could be holding the Denver Broncos former wide receiver back.
He admitted he was “afraid to fail” in his NFL career, leading him to retire because it was “easier.”
However, Eric confessed that transitioning into a life outside of football has been far from simple.
“It was great for six months, and then depression, anxiety,” the father of four said while fighting back tears.
“Taking the locker room away, being in isolation, and questioning who I am, what my worth is, what’s my legacy, without talking about it, just holding it in,” Eric explained of his mental battles since hanging up his cleats.
The TV star was encouraged to further open up about life off the football field, and he shared the dynamic at home with his country music star wife, Jessie, 37.
“I have four kids. I support my wife because she is a career woman. I take pride in that,” Eric confessed, but the operatives urged him to pursue something for himself and were sure that would help him break through his mental roadblocks in the challenges.
Eric appeared to take that advice to heart and went all out in the next day’s “Murderball” challenge, which had the recruits fight to get a ball over the opposition’s goal line in true football style.
However, the physical exercise became too much for the TV personality, who injured his back, and the pain only worsened over time.
Eric was later checked out by the on-site medic, and he wasn’t cleared to continue the show.
Upon returning to the tent to tell his wife, Jessie decided to quit and leave with her husband voluntarily.
Fans applauded the pair for making it as far as they did, considering eight recruits had already left before them.
“Noooo I LOVED Eric and Jessie,” one person wrote on X.
“Oh Go Eric!” said another.
Earlier in the episode, model Chanel Iman was forced to leave after failing to meet the operatives’ standards.
Other celebrities who’ve bowed out so far include Brittany Cartwright, Teresa Giudice, Eva Marcille, Jussie Smollett, Johnny Manziel, Nick Young, and Ravi V. Patel.
